Practitioner: When we see or feel the beating of the heart, what kind of repetitive words should we use? Sometimes the heart beats so fast that it is impossible to contemplate. Sometimes it beats rhythmically.
Phra Arjan: If the beating of the heart is so fast that we could not use repetitive words or we could not contemplate in a timely manner, then we should experience clearly without using repetitive words. This is because our awareness is quicker. Contemplate clearly, without using any repetitive words, and see how it (Translator’s note: The beating phenomenon) disappears, how it ceases. Do not worry about repetitive words because they will slow down our awareness, making us unable to contemplate phenomena in a timely manner.
Practitioner: How do we extinguish all delusion (avijja) and unwholesomeness so that they are comple- tely gone from the mind?
Phra Arjan: This is very important. To extinguish all that we have accumulated so that they are completely gone from our mind requires supreme wisdom. We need to clearly contemplate the truth. Where does supreme wisdom come from?
