door knob, is there only one turning phenomenon—feeb? Or, does it turn steadily—kuk, kuk, kuk—then ceases? Try this now: As we turn our neck slowly like this, does the turning phenomenon cease periodically? Is there periodic tripping? Or, is there a linear movement? Does the linear movement have a cessation phenomenon before it moves on? How do we feel? This is the emergence-cessation of the movement—this is how we experience emergence-cessation.
When we do walking meditation, as we stop and turn, we can experience how this phenomenon is. We will observe the foot moving; or the face moving rst. When doing walking meditation; moving the right foot, moving the left foot, as we stop, stand still for awhile. As we move the right foot, pueb; as the left foot follows rhythmically; as we turn, pueb. This is experiencing the periodic emergence- cessation phenomenon. As we observe in this manner, we will experience the emergence-cessation phenomena repeatedly—peep, peep, peep. As we stop, stay still, then experience the walking phenomenon: Just before we lift our foot, do we experience the mind moving to the foot rst before it lifts? What kind of emergence-cessation phenomenon does it have? This is how to experience. This is the way to contemplate minor bodily movements. I hope you now have a better understanding.
People who are dgety will have a lot of minor bodily movements. After meditating for a while, when they hear
