something, they will swiftly turn left, swiftly turn right. They will frequently scratch (themselves), frequently shift, cannot sit still, frequently twist, frequently sway. These are all phenomena of the minor bodily movements. Try to be aware, aware in time, aware that it (Translator’s note: The body) is about to move, it is about to blink, it is about to yawn. Some people may fall asleep without yawning at all. They feel sleepy, then fall asleep. No yawning. But some people, the more they yawn, the more they are awake. Some people are surprised that they yawn constantly while walking (during walking meditation). They do not feel sleepy but they constantly yawn. Why?
Observe that when we yawn, what is discharged? Wind, correct? Wind substance (dhati). After we discharge wind, our mind becomes more clear, ready to contemplate the next phenomenon. When we yawn, we do not feel sleepy. But, when we really feel sleepy, we sit then fall asleep—without yawning. We fall asleep because our concentration is too intense and our mindfulness is weak. And, sometimes there is no mindfulness, no concentration. The mindfulness is so weak that we fall asleep. We fall asleep despite being busy; we fall asleep despite being hectic. This is called: Being so fatigued that we fall asleep. We should observe this.
