see? It is not necessary that being still also means being con ned. Being uncluttered is being free. Therefore, we can choose which type we want to use. This is to show that to be equanimous within any particular natural condition is not wrong. To know how to use equanimity with our daily lives is not wrong. And, we should use it for certain issues, at certain times. The key is which type of equanimity does not burden ourselves.
Equanimity could burden oneself. When equanimity is caused by a presence of self or equanimity that is con ned, it will result in a sense of discomfort; a lack of freedom; heaviness and stiffness. All negative feelings. Therefore, the key is to widen (Translator’s note: Equanimity). Equanimous like the mind of divine beings (brahma), divine beings in heaven. Loving-kindness (metta) has no boundaries. Equanimity also has no boundaries, and cannot be quanti ed. Being within that kind of ambiance, see how do we feel? Try being equanimous sometimes—sit still and be equanimous. Sit still without doing anything, relax, let go... let go of what? Let go of feelings—making them equanimous? Or, let go of mindfulness, allowing it to oat away? Or, let go of the mind, allowing it to be enthralled by natural conditions?
If (the mind) is allowed to be enthralled, we are no longer sitting equanimously. We happily absorb natural conditions constantly. But, if we sit with a sense of serenity,
