serenity—then, it is like we are walking within serene contemplation. Therefore, this serene contemplation will exist for a long period. If we do this, we gain a lot of strength. The Buddha said that when we do walking meditation, concentration exists for a long period. Serene contemplation exists for a long period. But, when we do sitting meditation, as we get up, serene contemplation ceases immediately.
As I have said that we should do things in the atmosphere of unburdenness, to always raise our mind into unburdenness, like during our walking or doing minor bodily movements. To always have the constituent of serene contemplation (anga-jhana) as support. To always have the concentration to control. Observe that when we have the atmosphere to support, we will be peaceful automatically. Our mind will be stable. But, whenever the atmosphere is gone, chaos will replace it, then serenity will reduce, comfort will decline. Therefore, I always teach that whenever we do walking meditation, always raise our mind into unburdenness rst—making the atmosphere greater than our physical selves, then walk through that unburdenness.
I use simple and relaxed terms here. But, in reality, they are very important, very special. I do this so that you do not feel worried. If I say “walking within serene contemplation”, then you will think too much immediately.
