ANCHORING Ingress Protection (IP) -
How Protected Are You?

Many products in this catalogue, not least the Quick winches,
give protection ratings referring to an IP number. The most
common we see are IP66 and IP67. This code descrbes the
level of ingress protection. IP stands for ingress protection.
The first number refers to the level of protection from solid
particles. The second digit refers to the level of protection
from liquids.

In general terms, IP66 will protect from waves washing a deck
or general water spray. IP67 is able to handle pressure better
where the same waves may actually immerse the product or
force water against it.

Regardless of rating there is no excuse for careless
installation, faulty operational procedures or poor
maintenance. Look after your equipment and you can expect a
long life from it.

The table below will explain the level of protection afforded by
each rating.

4 Protected against solid objects over 1 mm in size Typically wires, screws etc

5 Protected against dust with limited ingress Must not interfere with satisfactory operation

6 Totally protected against dust No ingress
