So how does one get rid of debt?
If like most people, you are “normal” and
already have some debts; how do you then get rid
of them? I like the approach taught by Dave
Ramsey, and he should know having guided
millions of people to become “debt free”. Typically,
that means all debts paid off except home mortgage.
You can hear all about his “baby steps” for
paying off debt and becoming debt free. And by
the way, you can learn these steps by listening to
Dave Ramsey’s free podcasts or You Tube videos,
or by reading his books such as (THE TOTAL
MONEY MAKEOVER) or by taking his course
(Financial Peace University).
Some of Dave’s baby steps are below as I
understand them. Do them in this order.
1. Set up an emergency fund with just $1,000
in it. All other savings (other than retirement
investments) are then directed at debts.
2. After that, Direct all possible moneys at your
debts. Develop “gazelle intensity” because it
is hard to pay off debts and your financial
