Alf remembers:
It was a hot summer day in 1983. Alf and his buddy Ken Hatfield were stripped to their waists as they perspired while repairing the washing machine at Alf and Peg’s house. There was a visitor at the door Alf had never seen before. The friendly fellow, Pastor Mark Ramseth visiting from Bozeman, introduced himself. They hit it off right away.
Word got out that Alf and Peg and three other couples, Don and Bernice Bjertness, Bob and Barb Hiaring, and Dave and Linnea Veeder were talking about the need for a Lutheran Church on the west end of town. Mark came to Billings to meet these families and hear what they had to say. Before too long, Mark, his wife Carol and four daughters piled in their Volkswagon and moved to Billings to help start the new church.
Bernice remembers:
In our previous church, we felt like we weren’t doing much, that we were consuming rather than serving. When King of Glory started we saw a real need and believed that we could be of service.
In the early days of King of Glory we all
had jobs to do to make the service happen. Everyone had to do everything and I
believe that was a real bonding experience.
