Memories from John Hanson:
We joined KOG when my wife, Deborah, was in Law School in Missoula and I was raising our young twin boys. Pastor Mark Ramseth was a neighbor and since we were not overjoyed with our church at the time, I thought a new mission church would be a neat thing. Pastor Ramseth’s daughter even became the babysitter for our two sons thus cementing our connection to King of Glory.
As King of Glory was considering building our own building, Dave Veeder & Bud Leuthhold among others found our present site and realized we would be in the heart of new growth in West Billings. As I remember it, one day Dave brought me a piece of paper to sign.
I said, “What is this?” He said, “Oh, it is just for the church and I want a doctor’s signature on it.” What I didn’t realize until years later was that I was signing the bank note for our church.
Diane Powers remembers:
In 1984 I heard of a new Lutheran
Church being started in Billings; begun
with hopes of being built in the expanding west end of our city. On
impulse, and without my family, I attended one Sunday in September. It was a small group of intelligent, invigorating people; the pastor’s four daughters being the only children in attendance, and the music was wonderful! By the time church was over, I was sold on joining this thoughtful, spirited group on their journey of faith.
Our family started attending regularly. Our three daughters increased the number of children by 75%. The church “board” (they insisted upon not using the archaic word “council”) met often. There were many vigorous debates on where to buy land and on the careful verbiage of the church by-laws. Sunday school was begun. A small choir organized. A smaller confirmation class began. And there were wonderful dinners, with robust conversation, at people’s homes.
