Diane Powers remembers:
On Easter Sunday, 1987, we were able to have our church service outside, standing on the subflooring, above the church basement. Those attending early service watched the sun rise as we stood facing east. More people had joined our congregation by then, and we were a meaningfully sized group attending that morning. Perhaps 70 of us.
Many months later, when we had our first service in the sanctuary, those of us who had been there from near the beginning of this undertaking – establishing a new church - were so excited to celebrate this joyous occasion. Many of us arrived early to hug and laugh and feel the Holy Spirit among us. What happened next had us standing in amazement. Through the front door people kept coming... and coming. People we didn’t necessarily know, but we certainly welcomed. The maxim “build it and they shall come” was in evidence. Our small cadre of members was outsized by others who joined us that morning. The sanctuary was built to hold 200+ people, and that first morning the pews were nearly full.
