Roger and Beth Adam were intrigued when they heard about the first-ever multi-season TV series about the life of Christ, called "The Chosen". They watched the first season and Roger loved it so much he watched it again. The show's tagline, "see Jesus through the eyes of those who met him," got the Adams excited about faith as the Scriptures came to life on their television screen.
In the Fall of 2021 as people began to feel comfortable meeting again in small groups, Roger and Beth extended the invitation to about 20 people to "come and see." Roger explains, "there was a hunger to be together again and 'The Chosen' was a very easy small group opportunity." For eight weeks participants gathered at the Adam home to share snacks, watch an episode from Season 1, and have conversation.
"The Chosen"
When the eight weeks of Season 1 were finished the group decided they wanted to keep going. On to Season 2 they went.
"For me, it's been a great way to start the week. It centers you. You just really want to be friends with Jesus [after watching an episode]," said Dr. Jenny Pflug enthusiastically.
"I've been in a lot of Bible Studies over the years, heard a lot of sermons," Roger Adam explained, "but as I watched 'The Chosen,' I would wonder, 'is that in the Bible?' The show actually pulls you into the Scriptures. The gospel and the sermons in worship are taking on new relevance for me."
For Lent, "Watch Parties" will be offered at KOG on Wednesdays at either 6pm or 7pm. Plan to "come and see!"
