Page 54 - Kirin Holdings Teaching Note
P. 54
Kirin is dependent, to some extent, on its alliance partners,
over which it has no direct control (but perhaps an equity
stake), performing to expected levels.
A timeline does not just record the events in a company’s
history it is also a window in the development of its strategy
and tactics, its health and wellbeing and its future direction
of travel. Diagram 1, is an out-take from the company
timeline covering the period from when Yoshinori Isozaki
took over as President and CEO. This snap shot allows the
events to be divided, broadly, into those that are based on
outright ownership, merger or alliance and acquisition of a
stake in another company. Although, blurring will occur
within the categories (See Different Market Entry Strategies)
as time moves on and the company changes its focus it is
important to appreciate that Kirin has generally acquired
equity stakes or alliances as a means of development. This
has had an effect on its financial risk exposure and the
obtainment of its CSV commitment.
