Trinity Mirror launched the UK's first standalone national newspaper for 30
years - called The New Day – on 29th February 2016 at a sale price of
initially 25p and then two weeks thereafter 50p, with a length of 40 pages
every day. It would be a print only paper and would aim for a circulation of
200,000. At the time of its launch, the group said the title would cover news
and features in "an upbeat, optimistic approach and will be politically neutral".
Its sister paper was the Daily Mirror (791,000 circulation).
In the event it only achieved a circulation of 40,000 and announced on the 5th
of May 2016 that it would cease publication on Friday 6 May 2016.
