Some simple questions and answers may help to

illuminate the areas that will emerge when using the case

study.

Q1 Should we be concerned with the increasing trend

towards more and more devices coming under

software control?

A1 The answer is simple – vulnerability. Schneier

pointed out that some appliances that are both
inexpensive and long-lasting are unlikely to be

subject to the latest software developments. The

consequence may be that backdoors into overall

computer-based systems.

Q2 What value exists in a company such as ESNC

GmbH?

A2 The nature of ESNC business is that of security.

However, this security issue is not simply about the

company that has been found to have a flaw but

rather it is about the customers/users of this

company who may be exposed to cyber attack if the

issue is not addressed.

In some sense it could be maintained that ESNC is

providing a socially responsible product and service .
