Exploiting Disaster
The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was rushed, in August 2016, to
market a month ahead of the release of its competitor, the
iPhone 7. Generally, companies want their products to be so
hot they fly off the shelves. Unfortunately for Samsung, the
South Korean mobile phone giant, found their flagship,
Galaxy Note 7, was so hot it spontaneously combusted.
Twice Samsung had to stop production of its $882 device
which accounted for 10% of its brand’s sales and undertake
an extensive and expensive recall estimated at 2.5 million
units and anywhere up to £17b according to Reuters (1).
