Varley rejected the comparison with BoS which he said was

a different business at a different time and would console
himself with a €200m break fee from ABN Amro. Varley had

claimed that the experience had left the bank stronger,

internally, and better prepared for the next assault, though

there were mixed views as to whether Barclays would seek
out another target or become one.
