The market however, didn’t agree and Barclays’ shares
fell 7 per cent to 182p, less than two-thirds of the value of
the bank’s equity. Two years earlier the shares were
nearer 240p. (10)
“A fair number of big shareholders don’t think so,
either. Mr Staley’s strategy involves allocating
substantial resources to rebuilding Barclays’
investment bank. They’d rather the group paid a
dividend. After all, the weak performance of
investment banking caused group profits in the third
