PREPARING A TEACHING NOTE
A teaching note is a document designed to give other potential
instructors valuable insights into the case and the learning
which can be derived from its use. The teaching note allows in
particular, new teachers to see what the case author intended
when using the case study – its strengths and weaknesses.
Moreover, it provides insights from the experienced user on
the traps and pitfalls to avoid, places where students were apt
to travel, and the quagmires that may lie ahead. In essence the
teaching note provides a security blanket for both the new
lecturer and the seasoned one.
What makes a good case?
To some extent we have already seen what makes a good
case. At its heart it has to be ‘sexy’, it has to grab the
imagination, sink its hook in and hold your attention.
