ORIGINS:
“The only way you can ever set up a
successful business is to be lucky...
Anyone who says otherwise is just lying”
Charlie Bigham
At the age of 28 in 1995, after five years as a management consultant,
Charlie Bigham decided to give up his job working in the financial
sector at Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and then with ABL, a
specialist consultancy on feasibility projects for museums, theatres and
art galleries and go traveling prior to setting up his own business. The
problem was that he did not know what business he wanted to be in!
However, he did know that he wanted to be involved in something
more practical than that which he had been doing.
Nine months after setting out with his girlfriend in their campervan to
travel to India where on the way he saw how local cooks prepared
dishes using only the freshest ingredients.
Bigham found himself back in London with his business idea taking
root.
“It struck me as I travelled that cooking a meal for
most people in the world doesn’t mean chucking
something in a microwave. It means chucking a
bunch of fresh ingredients into a pan on the side of
the street.”
