John cp 2:1-11

Background:

The Miracle – The fact that the first miracle takes place at wedding should not be overlooked.
The wedding ceremony is an important life event and this one is filled with significant
symbolism. A wedding is a planned union to join two separate persons and families together.
The background of a wedding to frame the first miracle is symbolic of the planned arrangement
God has made to re-unite lost humanity back into the family its creator.

John 2:1- And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and
the mother of Jesus was there:
John 2:2- And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

Lesson Notes:

(2:1-2) – The wedding is in Cana, near Nazareth, both cities are a part of the province of Galilee.
The wedding must have been one of great importance because Jesus and the men He called to
follow Him were all separately invited. We should assume that they were familiar with the
families bringing this union together.
