infirmed from the slumber of deception that causes them to physically and spiritually decay, as
they waste away waiting to be rescued by false hope.
To this condition the Son of God says “rise” wake-up and rediscover lost faith, truth and
spiritual identity. Become aware of the spiritual inheritance that re-connects to faith in God.
The challenge to the impotent was an echo to the entire House of Israel, for those that were
still spiritually asleep; unaware the Messiah was present among them.
(John 5:9) – “And immediately the man was whole…” There is no delay when a person awakes
to the truth; its effect is immediate. The impotent man was made “whole”, which translated
means he was made “healthy” in mind and body. Renewing his mind, renewed life in his body.
The bed that once provided comfort, allowing him to resign and recline in deception was
overtaken, releasing him from its power. The impotent now carried the bed that once carried
him. When men are made whole, they discover the power to conquer the infirmities and
iniquities that made them feeble and spiritually weak.
The whole man has power to walk. Impotent men are subject to remain domicile in their
despair. When resurrected, men can walk in the newness of life, the Apostle Paul makes this
declaration in comparison to how Jesus-Messiah is “raised-up” from the dead. The word the
Apostle uses for “raised-up” is the same word the Messiah used to challenge the impotent man
“egeiro”, to express awakening from the dead. [Romans 6:4] The whole man is “raised-up”
from the dead and awakened to the truth.
John 5: 10- The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the
sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.
John 5: 11- He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said
unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.
John 5: 12- Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee,
Take up thy bed, and walk?
John 5: 13- And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had
conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.
John 5: 14- Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him,
Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto
thee.
John 5: 15- The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which
had made him whole.
Lesson Notes:
(John 5:10-11) – The response from Jews that witnessed this great miracle is blinded by an
allegiance to religion. Work or engineered motion is strictly forbidden on the sabbath. In the
mind of the Jews who presented this critique, the sabbath miracle created physical transition
and movement that violated of Sabbath law. The law would not tolerate the impotent man to
carry his bed and physically transition himself from laying in the archways of sickness and
