Lesson Notes:

(John 5:21-23) – A forecast of specific miracles are offered that will further prove the power of
God working through him. Jews believe that the God of Abraham holds the reins to life and
death. They believe a man lives because God wills it and He dies because God allows it. The
greatest sign of divine authority on earth is demonstrated by the power God has over life and
more specifically to return life to a person that has died. The Son of God makes a prophetic
declaration of His ability to return life those taken into the custody of death as a proof-test of
His testimony. All those that will believe His testimony will pass from death to eternal life.

Student Review: Son of God (judge of all humanity)
The same message of having power to give life was spoken to the Samaritan woman in Sychar.
The son of God clearly wants His audience to know that He is a life giver, having the power over
life and death. His authority over life empowers Him with the authority to judge all man. The
Son of God is the *judge of all humanity making it prudent for all men to honor the Son with
the same respect that is given to the Father. Anyone that does not honor the Son will find it
impossible to honor the Father. [Matthew 25:26-31*son of Man: judge of all humanity]

(John 5:24) – As the enemies of the Messiah are plotting for His death, in contrast the Son of
God sets before them the opportunity to have everlasting life. The counter-offering requires
the accusers to hear His word and believe that He is sent from God and is God. Everyone that
hears and believe will pass from death (judgment) to life. The judge of humanity has authority
over life and can over-rule the sentence of condemnation that all men deserve.

(John 5:25) – The hour is coming when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God. The hour
that “is coming”, is a time-stamp reference to the end of time, when the Son of God will call to
life the dead that are awaiting transition into eternity. [IThessalonians 4:16] The hour “that is
now” is a time-stamp reference for the present. Now, is the time of repentance, when men
have an opportunity to hear the word of God and choose the gift life to avoid the wages of sin.
               [Deuteronomy 30:19, Romans 6:23]
