                                                      Preface





                        This e-Modul is intended for a supplementary material of Mata Pelajaran Bahasa
                  Inggris SMA, Kelas X. The e-Modul was written to fulfil the needs of the students of

                  reading and writing materials that portable and can be accessed anywhere, anytime

                  and also fun and facilitate student collaboration.

                        The e-Modul is presented using the Reading to Learn method designed by Martin
                  & Rose (2012) as a text- or genre-basedapproach development program. So far it has

                  proven effective in helping students read and write effectively in Australia. Reading to

                  Learn is carried out through four stages, namely Reading Preparation, Detailed Reading,
                  Co-Rewriting/Joint Construction and Individual Construction. Each stage has strategies,

                  learning cycles, and interactions as key to this program.

                        To provide a more interesting, fun, challenging, and healthy learning environment

                  for students' learning, the gamification approach is included. Gamification is a learning

                  concept that aims to make students more motivated by maximizing the use of
                  elements in a game, for examples challenges, rewards, badges and leaderboard, so

                  that students are motivated to learn and practice reading and writing.

                        The implementation of this gamification-based and Reading to Learn Method in
                  the form of e-modules are specially prepared to further assist the successful

                  achievement of the specific learning objectives that that focus on comprehending and

                  writing texts: Descriptive, Announcement and Narrative. The existence of the module

                  provides opportunities for students to strengthen their skill in reading and writing by

                  first reading the Model texts, through Detailed Reading, Do Note Taking and
                  Reconstructing the Model Texts in collaboration with their friends. They are motivated

                  with gamification components: challenges and rewards, badges and leaderboard. The

                  process will facilitate the students to finally do Independent Writing on their own.
