               Top Mistakes with Food Safety
                  Management Systems

      Every  day,  certification  bodies  encounter  mistakes
      that  companies  have  made  with  their  food  safety
      management  system.  The  following  are  at  the  top
      of  the list. You can help strengthen your system by
      avoiding these mistakes.

      1.  Not knowing if you are ready to be assessed
         by a  certification  body. Make  sure  everything
         is lined up correctly for a registration assessment.
         Points to consider are:
         •  Strengthen  management’s  understanding  of
            the  standard  and  management  review
            process
         •  Ensure the required documents are in place
         •  Make  sure  your  processes  are  defined  and
            in place
         •  Measurables must be collected
         •  Internal audits must be effective
         •  Corrective  and  preventive  actions must  be
            taking place
         •  Effectiveness is being tracked
         •  Focus on customer specifications and
            requirements
