CILT Southern Section Visit to Waterford Tuesday 26 June
On Tuesday 26 June, CILT members visited sunny Waterford for an all-day event beginning with an entertaining historical walking tour of Waterford City, where Jack the guide informed members about the early Waterford traders whose import and export businesses helped to build Waterford as a major Irish city port.
Following the walking tour, a coach brought members to the Port of Waterford offices at Belview, who were met by Frank Ronan FCILT, CEO Port of Waterford and his colleagues treated to lunch in their impressive offices overlooking the port Frank gave an interesting and informative presentation on the ports activities and future plans, followed by an impressive tour of the quayside
Members then travelled the short distance to MEDITE SMARTPLY, where we were warmly greeted by Lindy Duff Distribution Manager and her colleagues Pat Breen, Operation Manager gave us an overview of the site activities and its importance as a major exporter Then followed a tour of the facility, where members saw the manufacturing
process from logs to the finished SMARTPLY boards
It was back to Waterford Port to watch the departure of the “Silver Wind” cruise liner, from Frank Cassin Wharf
The CILT Southern Section would like to thank everyone in the Port of Waterford and MEDITE SMARTPLY, for facilitating this event, which made the CILT Southern Section’s visit to Waterford and South Kilkenny, such an enjoyable day
