Spreading Smiles in East Harlem
On Thursday, August 9th, the NYSAGD teamed up with Colgate
to conduct a complimentary oral health screening for children at-
tending a summer program at PS 205 in East Harlem. Mrs. Pau-
la Bostick, our Executive Director, along with NSYAGD Board
of Trustees members Drs. Binod Verma, Berry Stahl, and James
Keenan, worked together with the Colgate representative, James, to
provide a valuable and fun experience aboard the Colgate Mobile
Dental Van. Our young friends were examined to evaluate their oral
hygiene and any need for dental follow-up. They were excited to
receive a blue drawstring backpack which displayed the AGD logo
and a Colgate bag filled with oral care products.
Hands-On Connective Tissue Grafting and Crown Lengthening
On August 16 and 17 , the NYSAGD in collaboration with the Perio Institute, held a sold-out two day hands-on course at Henry Schein
th
th
Dental in Woodbury, NY. During the two days, periodontist Dr. James Kohner presented multiple cases to illustrate the principles and tech-
niques for free gingival grafts, connective tissue grafts, and crown lengthening. Following his case presentations, Dr. Kohner guided course
participants in practicing those techniques on pig jaws. At the conclusion of the program, course participants had a better understanding of
the indications for the procedures along with the materials, instrumentation, and surgical techniques to safely and effectively resolve their
patients’ potential periodontal issues.
