BUENOS AIRES (Reuters Life!) - On the fourth floor
of Buenos Aires’ largest psychiatric hospital,
patients dance the tango with doctors and nurses.
Doctors as far as Italy and Australia are using
Argentina’s world-famous tango to treat problems
ranging from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease
to phobias and marital breakdowns.
“With tango, you have the advantage of having
many different styles of dancing to fit each specific
patient,” said Martin Sotelano, chairman of the
Wales-based International Association of Tango
Therapy.
SEOUL, KOREA - Argentine Tango (Tango) is used
clinically for therapeutic purposes. However, tango
can be applied just as a dance or as a kind of
exercise. The analysis of the unique characteristics
of tango stance and posture was analyzed
according to functional anatomy to obtain more
effects by tango therapy. The study was conducted
at Tango School Studio in Seoul, Korea with two
tango masters and two tango experts (an expert in
tango medicine and a medical doctor).
