EURATEX releases vision for new EU strategy for textiles and clothing
The European Apparel and Textile Confederation (EURATEX) has released
its vision for a new EU strategy for textiles and clothing. It said that EU
policy makers have put focus on the textile sector, an ‘EU Sustainable
Textiles Strategy’ is to be published by the European Commission this
year, and a transition pathway will be developed for the sector.
The current context offers an opportunity to shape a new European
framework for the T&C industry, which is at a crossroad. EURATEX wants
to contribute actively to this process, to make sure it can develop a
forward-looking business model, laying the foundations for a competitive
and sustainable European textiles industry, the confederation said in a
media release.
Turkey's Korteks starts producing recycled PFY using Starlinger line
Korteks, one of the world’s biggest yarn producers based in Bursa,
Turkey, has started the production of recycled polyester filament yarn
(PFY) in its production facility using a Starlinger recycling line. The
Starlinger recoSTAR universal 165 H-VAC iV+, which is part of Korteks’
$10 million investment in a new polymer recycling facility, took up
operation in May 2021.
The plant has a production capacity of 7,200 tons per year and currently
processes clean in-house polyester fibres from production scrap together
with washed post-consumer PET flakes at a ratio of 50/50. Korteks uses
the polyester regranulate at a share of 100 per cent for its new polyester
filament yarn line it is going to market under the name ‘TAÇ Reborn’.
With this investment, the company has made an important step towards
establishing a circular economy in the Turkish textile industry, the two
companies said in a joint media release.
