church and the churches that will thrive are those who take this as a wake up call to re-evaluate and
perhaps reinvent the way they “do” church. This would apparently include new ways of using and shaping
their buildings.
Recent research data published by leading church and culture researcher Barna Group supports that a
demographic shift is taking place on who is attending in person services noting that it has shifted
noticeably toward younger people. Positing that seeing more connection and meaning in their lives while
older boomer members have receded a bit given the health safety concerns among other factors.
All this point to OPPORTUNITIES for new way so building church gathering spaces- both worship spaces
and ancillary spaces. FGMA in both the Austin and Reston offices is well positioned to market to thriving
churches who are looking to retool existing facilities or build new ground up building.
Dialogue between the Reston and Austin office will continue with renewed focus on identifying such
churches and targeted ways to market to those seeking to address prost pandemic realities through
facilities projects.
