Reclaim…Rework…
Renew…Reusing vintage
household linen and lace to
ReStitch into Textile Art.
As a child, and later as a
secondary school student, I was
always captivated by stitching of any
type. University days saw me study
to become a Home
Economics teacher. During this
time, whilst undertaking many
textiles units, I also took private
lessons in making bobbin lace. This
began my love affair with lace.
Whilst traveling in the United
Kingdom and Europe I started
collecting treasured pieces of
vintage lace not planning on
doing anything except admire them.
Now, I focus on reclaiming
vintage household linen. I layer it
with vintage lace and doileys –
reworking them into a collage.
Finally, the addition of
embellishments including
ribbons, braid, beads, sequins,
fabric, together with both hand and
machine stitching help to renew
each piece.
I have exhibited in a number of
