Ivan Bilibin and also of Carl Larsson as
well as Van Gogh whose paintings of trees
and undergrowth are endlessly inspiring
to me. I love Japanese wood block prints
and ink wash paintings, too, and see that
coming through in my work sometimes.
Hokusai and Hiroshige were geniuses. And
I also love the work of Hergé having been
brought up reading the Tintin books - he
was an astounding artist.
When I’m not stitching, I’m looking at
trees! I love to spend time outdoors,
especially East Lothian or up on the west
coast of Scotland where my (now) teenage
daughter and I go every summer for our
holidays, swimming with seals and having
bonfires on the beach. Being in nature is
very important to me and I need to get
out of the city when I can. Having said
that, Edinburgh is a city like no other with
so many beautiful green spaces - it’s an
astoundingly beautiful place to live and
work. With lots of trees!
