UICT HOLISTIC EDUCATION CENTRES
UICT Sadabat Boys Holistic Education Centre
The new Sadabat Boys Boarding Centre in Sydenham, Durban was opened in September 2021 and houses 85 learners. The learners follow a daily routine guided by study, prayer and discipline. Their needs are fully taken care of, they are given assistance with homework and a safe, loving space to grow and flourish as individuals.
This safe-haven shields learners from the challenges and dangers that are often found at home and in the communities – including issues like violence, crime, poverty, drug and alcohol abuse, harsh realities of life for many of South African children and families.
The UICT-KZN Director highlights the four pillars of the boarding school:
• Hygiene and cleanliness
• Manners and respect
• Discipline
• Spirituality
“Society is at risk of cultural and moral degeneration,” he says with passion and purpose. “What is needed is a revival of character and morality. This can only be achieved through education, God-consciousness, empathy and selflessness.”
The boarding school is impeccable, the boys are smartly dressed, polite, and they radiate with an inner light that is a rarity in the modern world. Not a single cleaner is employed at the centre... all work is done by educators and learners.
Learners are recruited from schools, but mostly it is word of mouth – news spreads in the communities about what we do... and in that way, more and more learners join.”
One such youngster is Osman Dlongolo. He joined our centre when he was 11 years old for his primary and secondary education and later decided to pursue the Aalim course as a result of his lived experience.
“There was a saying that I came across when I first joined UICT and it goes: ‘We can help you to help others’. This motto made a big impression on me,” he remembers. “I decided that I wanted to help my people.”
