Sports Festival a Resounding Success
The 2024 Sports Festival hosted by the Imbali Education and Innovation Precinct (IEIP) in collaboration with the DUT Midlands’ Sports Department attracted learners from local schools as well as community members. Held at the DUT Indumiso Campus Sport Centre, it was sponsored by aQuellé South Africa.
This social cohesion initiative aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle and sports programmes, as well as talent identification, to encourage learners to pursue exercise science as a career and to promote sports and education at DUT, in schools and Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges, and in the Imbali community.
Participants from DUT, Zibukezulu Technical High School, Sukuma Comprehensive High School, Funulwazi Primary School, Mfundwenhle Primary School, Ekukhanyeni Special School, Rise and Shine Primary School,Thornville and the Ward 19 community engaged in different sports codes, including soccer, netball and indigenous games.
All in all, the event was a great success, with prizes including trophies, medals, full netball and soccer kits, IEIP and DUT Living Values branded T-shirts, key holders, and caps.
