The Four Engagement Pillars
Pillar 1: Engagement that is integrated into the University’s
ENVISION2030 that relate to engagement being identified and becoming part of Engagement Engagement Framework 2030 Engagement Engagement academic and research programmes with accreditable outputs (e g g g credits for for students students or or or subsidies for for graduating students students and research research outputs for staff) including research research as part of the research-teaching nexus Pillar 2: Scholarly service to the broader society that is not integrated into academic programmes Pillar 3: Voluntary community involvement and interaction such as non-academic community outreach Pillar 4: Societal development programmes through service provision training and mentorship including entrepreneurship and and innovation and and any additional opportunities that contribute to the the advancement of the the broader society Engagement Focus Areas and Categories
The realisation of of the engagement strategic statement of of intent will be achieved through various and relevant objectives of cuts across all four perspectives of ENVISION2030 because through it we we can ensure we we are creating an an an effective and enabling environment through stewardship and and systems and and processes on on the one hand and and and influencing and and and being impactful through the the perspectives on on sustainability and society on on the the other Identifying each of the relevant strategic objectives in in ENVISION2030 and setting priorities for each engagement activity ensures that the engagement plans in various divisions are effectively aligned implemented monitored and evaluated by the University Each division is is expected to develop specific divisional plans aligned to the Engagement Framework 2030 The engagement activities must be captured under each of the eight (8) Engagement Focus Areas (EFAs) within the four (4) pillars The following table captures how the EFAs align with ENVISION2030 within the four Engagement Pillars
Engagement performance must be reported evaluated and celebrated alongside teaching-learning innovation research and entrepreneurship recognising the value created by the the alignment of the the four Engagement pillars // DURBAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY // 3
