The number of COVID-19 variants increased in in in 2021 Since the pandemic started in 2020 we have had to learn new ways to engage It has become vital for us as as a a a a a a Higher Education Institution to find innovative and creative ways of engaging Some of the digital platforms like Miro and Padlet (padlet com) are gradually being introduced to to staff to to assist with
“visual collaboration” and engagement Using online platforms like MS Teams and Zoom to conduct meetings has become a a a a part of our new normal We have started creating communities of practice working in in in particular areas using collaborative applications Other digital Apps like Slack are also being used for large-scale multi-country multi-national collaborations and some DUT staff have been exposed to these digital platforms This then talks to to the the need for DUT to to ensure we have a a a Mobile App for students that work In a a meeting held in in October 2021 the Information Technology Committee noted a a progress report from the the Chief Information Officer on on on the the acquisition of the the Mobile App for students which is still at the the procurement phase and is linked to the the purchase of the the ERP Student engagement is is a a a a a a key indicator that is is linked to to performance and higher-order learning amongst other indicators identified in in in the South African Survey of Student Engagement (SASSE) 2018 data collected by DUT as one of the participating institutions The engagement activities mapped in 2021 cut across the eight (8) focus areas in the Engagement Framework 2030 and align to the ENVISION2030 perspectives Since the pandemic started in in 2020 we have had to learn new ways to engage It has become vital for us as as a a a a a a Higher Education Institution to find innovative and creative ways of engaging // DURBAN UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY // 5
