1994 the the the the South African government replaced the the the the National Curriculum Statement Statement (NCS) with the the new system which is the the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement Statement (CAPS) In the the field of accounting education CAPS CAPS introduced new content to align the the curriculum with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) One of of the the major changes was the the merging of of Business Economics and and and Accounting into one subject in
in
in
Grades 8 and and and 9 (Economic and and and Management Sciences or or EMS) while in
Grades 10 to 12 they are taught as separate subjects Before the the curriculum change Accounting was taught as as an
an
independent subject from Grades 8 to 12 The changes have affected the quality of tuition where educators with training in
in
in
in
in
Business Economics only are expected to to integrate accounting content in
in
in
in
in
Grades 8 and 9 EMS teaching This has resulted in
in
in
in
in
a a a a a a a gap in
in
in
in
in
skills required to support Accounting educators in
in
lower grades grades (Grade (Grade 8-9) and ultimately the higher grades grades (Grades 10-12) The gap in
in
the skills has a a a a a a a negative effect on Grade 12 Accounting performance The University of Johannesburg has offered exam technique workshops to to to Grade 12 Accounting educators to to to address this disparity The purpose of of this paper is is to investigate the the the effects of of these exam techniques workshops on the the the Grade 12 results and and the perceptions of educators A quantitative method was was used and and primary data was was collected using using questionnaires has been analysed using using STATKON The results indicated positive perception and feedback from the the the educators about the the the exam technique and the the the grade 12 results have improved However the the educators would like to to get more support from universities in
