 During the year under review the TKZN offices attended to the following walk-in and email enquiries as per the table below.
Ongoing projects throughout the year included obtaining information on the King Shaka International Airport (KSIA) Demand Plan from ACSA and various tourism stakeholders, supporting tourism information help desks, and participating in different committees.
To promote travel and raise the level of awareness of tourism activities and products, the department participated in 25 events during the year. These events ranged from economic summits to youth development; event commemorations to economic imbizos, with the flagship event being Africa’s Travel Indaba in Durban.
Performance statistics for TKZN Information Services for 2023/2024
Another key role of Tourism Information Services is also to disseminate information for the domestic and global travel markets. This is channelled through media, agencies, embassies, consulates, conferences, and various national distribution points, scheduled according to an annual distribution plan.
TKZNs Tourism Information Services handled a total of 181 777 engagements and the distribution of 83 711 marketing brochures during 2023/2024. This is comprised of 15 592 walk-in, telephonic and email enquiries. There were 80 799 visitors to the website and 16 75 new users for the mobile app.

These were widely distributed through local tourism offices throughout KwaZulu-Natal, community events, embassies, summits, Imbizos, libraries, business fairs and through airport information kiosks.
Internationally, these were shipped to overseas embassies and distributed at various international travel shows and exhibitions.
Technology overview
Website and Mobile Traffic
A total of 80 799 users visited the website during the year under review. A 40 % decrease was noted when compared to the previous year. The decrease is due to the utilisation of organic digital marketing versus paid digital marketing.
Insights show that the highest number of digital visitors were general tourism searches from South Africa, Algeria, Germany, Sweden, US, UK, Eswatini, Nigeria and India.
