In 2024 student support from Business and industry dropped by 27.8% compared to 2023, aiding 206 students versus 287 the previous year. Despite R19.2 million supporting 219 students in 2022, the three-year trend remains concerning. Since 2022, Master’s and doctoral students received bursaries only upon degree completion, resulting in just two Master’s and six doctoral students supported in 2023, affecting postgraduate enrolment. However, a R1.77 million injection in 2024 boosted support for 52 Master’s and 31 doctoral students. Undergraduate Scholarship Award Scheme income slightly decreased by ~1% from 2023 to 2024, supporting 510 students in 2023 and 506 in 2024. Conversely, overall student support from SETAs, third-stream income, and DUT bursaries surged by 54.39% in 2024, aiding 800 students compared to 323 in 2023 – a 59.6% increase in students supported. NRF and SARAO support grew by 31.8%, benefiting 177 students in 2024 versus 139 in 2023. Additionally, SETA support for work-integrated learning and graduate stipends rose by 59.5%, assisting 947 students in 2024 compared to 428 in 2023.
