Researchers and PG students are strongly encouraged to participate in relevant short courses and workshops to augment their knowledge and skills. To empower researchers, the IWWT organised three workshops focused on enhancing capacities for publishing research. These workshops provided support in various areas, including journal publication, planning laboratory research and experiments, and bioinformatics (metagenomics), with collaboration and support from entities such as the National Institute for Communicable Diseases of South Africa.
The Research and Postgraduate Support Directorate conducted four workshops for both staff and students, to enhance the university’s research output. These workshops covered the essential aspects of research integrity, grant proposal writing, research ethics, and research capacity development. Facilitated in collaboration
with local institutions and research agencies, such as the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN), the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), and the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), these workshops contribute to the overall research and academic development within the university community.
DUT’s research partnerships and collaborations have a substantial impact on addressing societal challenges. For instance, research projects with government institutions may lead to policy recommendations that benefit communities.
Collaborations with industries can result in innovative products or processes, enhancing economic development and creating employment opportunities. International partnerships not only elevate DUT’s global standing but also contribute to crosscultural understanding and the sharing of best practices.
