 7) Liaises with the Information Communications Technology (ICT) Division to establish what forms of electronic communication are viable at the time.
8) Dispatches communications to internal stakeholders, external stakeholders, and the media once a decision has been taken by the Management Team and as directed by the VC.
9) Monitors media coverage and identifies issues that need to be addressed and responded to.
10) Provides ongoing updates and actively manages issues as and when the situation requires.
5.7 Director: Information Communications Technology
As the person with overall responsibility for the University’s information telecommunications and the Internet, the Director: ICT or an approved designated staff member from
relevant information to the Communications and Marketing Division that will summarise the facts in a public statement.
5) Ensures that employee support is provided in the aftermath of a disaster situation.
5.9 Dean of Students
As the person with overall responsibility for the University’s students and student affairs, it is vital that the Dean of Students is informed and up to date on incidents, particularly those concerning students. The Dean of Students has the following responsibilities:
1) Serves as a member of the Management Team.
2) Ensures that the student support system is suitably
prepared to respond to a disaster situation.
3) Upon receiving notification of a disaster which
may lead to media coverage, liaise with senior management and provide relevant information to the Communications and Marketing Division that will summarise the facts in a public statement.
4) Depending on the circumstances of the disaster, he/ she may choose to also involve the SRC.
5.10 Deans of Faculties
The responsibilities of Deans of Faculties are as follows:
1) Serve as a member of the Management Team.
2) Collaborate with all heads of departments (HODs) in
their respective faculties to ensure that appropriate steps have been taken for disaster preparedness and response.
5.11 Stakeholder and Media Communication Management
A primary objective of the DMP is to enable the University to present complete statements of fact about a disaster and to be decisive, responsive, and proactive in doing so.
It is equally important for the University to avoid the appearance of being ineffective and on the defensive. In accordance with the authority of this DMP, the Director: Communications and Marketing Division is responsible for managing and implementing all communication relating to a disaster and issues arising from it that could negatively affect stakeholder and media perceptions or UNIZULU’s reputation.

As the person with overall responsibility for the University’s employees, the Executive Director: Human Resources (HR) has the following responsibilities:
1) Serves as a member of the Management Team.
2) Ensures that the HR support system is suitably prepared to respond to an emergency.
3) Upon receiving notification of an emergency which may lead to media coverage, liaise with the affected employees.
4) Director/Manager (where necessary) to provide

Serves as a member of the Management Team. Ensures that all the necessary disaster communication infrastructure is in place and ready for deployment in the event of the need for disaster communication procedures.
Ensures that such infrastructure is tested on all parts of the campus on a regular basis.
Liaises with the Director: Communications and Marketing regarding what forms of electronic communication are viable at the time.
In the absence of clear directives from the VC or DVC, employees of the ICT Division may be able to facilitate disaster communication, using material provided by the Director: Communications and Marketing.
