NOTIFICATION AND INITIAL RESPONSE
The initial response depends on the specific nature of the infectious agent and the advice from the state. During the initial alert stage of a disease the CRT will assemble at the first opportunity to establish the following points:
1) Consider the level of alert
2) Examine the information provided by the World
Health Organisation (WHO), the National Department of Health, Higher Health and other government agencies
3) Liaise with other emergency services and agencies as appropriate
4) Identify employee and students at greater risk (risk assessment)
5) Establish communication links with employees and students
6) Establish what other immediate action needs to be taken on site
The members of CRT have the authority to take all steps necessary to minimise spread of infection. These may include:
1) Reviewing the alert stage and arranging meetings as
necessary
2) Liaising with all government agencies
3) Establishing an Incident Control Point or activating
the Control Room
4) Informing employees and students, arranging
briefing meetings as necessary
5) Suspending activities
6) Issuing policies, protocols and guidance on absence management
7) Requiring assistance from employees
8) Continuing to introduce control measures and
remedial action
9) Reallocating accommodation as necessary
10) Keeping senior management informed.
