Pule Letshwiti-Jones,a well-known journalist and eNCA reporter, recently visited DUT journalism students and gave insights into the value of journalism, ethics and fact-checking. Letshwiti- Jones also suggested that the widespread problem of false information may be addressed by double-checking information. He emphasised the necessity of initiative in the field and urged prospective journalists to actively pursue opportunities rather than wait passively.
GRAPHIC DESIGN STUDENTS WIN AT STUDENT GOLD PACK COMPETITION
With their imaginative and inventive packaging projects, Kaurin Reddy,Tamia Fynn, and Mandy Phumelele Mngoma won multiple awards in the Design, Packaging Technology, and Food Science categories.
The Student Gold Pack Competition allows students to engage in projects that showcase the skills and challenges of the packaging field.
For his creation, Pritt’s Refillable 2 In 1 Tape Dispenser, Kaurin Reddy was named the overall winner in the Design Category (Project 1). Kaurin designed the tape packaging as a dispenser, incorporating a serrated blade on one side for cutting the tape and allowed the tape’s opening to rest on the serrated edge, solving the common issue of locating the tape’s starting point. Tamia Fynn was placed second for Freshpak Goldpack Rooibos packaging, which was a design inspired by local talent Karabo Poppy, celebrating South African heritage.
Mandy Phumelele Mngoma took third place in the Packaging Technology category (Project three), for Lego X Piet Mondrian Collaboration, packaging that features five differently sized boxes, each containing different-coloured Lego pieces that allow users to create their own art.
