Artificial Intelligence for Complex and/or Critical Networks
Students from the Durban Academy had an interesting academic visit to the Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment.The purpose of the tour was to give the students an immersive experience so they could investigate the wide variety of programmes offered by the faculty. The learners were divided into groups, each assigned to different departments, including Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering, Urban and Regional Planning and Construction Management and Quantity Surveying.

 Durban Academy Academic Visit
     On 8 November 2024, the Department of Electrical Power Engineering under the FEBE recently hosted the distinguished Professor KumarVenayagamoorthy to deliver a public lecture on “Artificial Intelligence for Complex and/or Critical Networks” at the Urban Futures Centre, Steve Biko campus in Durban and online via MS Teams.
ProfVenayagamoorthy is currently the Duke Energy Distinguished Professor of Power Engineering and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Clemson University, USA.

“Celebrating 30 years of Freedom Towards Women’s Development” at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre on Friday, 30 August 2024.
This esteemed event also marked the official launch of DUT Women in Engineering and the Built Environment, an initiative celebrating women’s dedication to creating an inclusive and empowering environment in traditionally underrepresented fields.Women professionals from the water sector, engineering industry, and students actively participated in discussions centered on empowering the next generation of engineers and advancing women already in the field.
Ms Nthabiseng Fundakubi from the Department of Water and Sanitation praised the attendees and urged women to promote gender equality in the engineering sector.
“We are gathered here today to celebrate women, taking from the foundation that has been marked by those who walked this journey before us ... We need to arm ourselves withstrength and with faith so that we can be able to strive, as we are currently at a development stage, where we need to prove ourselves in the industry,” she said.
