Basics Two: The power of “veiling”
A signature technique in my own work (and one I always teach in my collage workshops) is “veiling” - using thin layers of pale paint to partially
obscure and unite collage elements, like those two examples below. It pushes and pulls, conceals and reveals. It’s fun -- and easy.
The more I work with white tempera paint, the more I love it for this purpose. When it dries, its velvety surface is perfect for over-marking with
graphite or colored pencil, or even stamping. The video on the next page shows you some basic veiling techniques.
