Basic Materials List
Small letter and abstract marks stencils
For creating the beeswax-friendly (absorbent) collage Rubber stamps: letter, calligraphy. grunge marks
pages:
Permanent ink stamp pads, black, white and/or brown
8.5x11” white printer paper and/or
9x12” white construction paper and/or Pre-cut mats for isolating compositional elements and for finishing
9x12” white lightweight drawing paper the art work
9x12” black construction paper
For the wax layers:
(Construction paper is readily available from craft stores and
school supply stores.) White (clear) beeswax and/or encaustic medium
Small images from copyright-free web sources, old catalogs, Metal composition leaf (optional)
ephemeral scraps and partial images, personal digital photos
printed on printer paper, (optional but fun) Metallic Book (transfer) foil
Assorted bits of absorbent collage paper such as tissue and rice Needle pottery tool or other incising tool
paper or pages from old books
Other:
Substrate – 10x10” or 5x7” archival mat board, or 140-300#
watercolor paper, Bristol board, or other heavy card-weight Mat board or other heavy paper for collage substrates - 300#
material watercolor paper works well, too.
Glue sticks –Scotch permanent glue sticks are good and Scissors, straightedge rulers for tearing and cutting paper
beeswax-friendly
Equipment for melting beeswax such as griddle with tuna cans
White Tempera Paint – (note: this does not seal the substrate) -
I like RAS Tempera Natural bristle Hake (flat) brushes
Graphite pencils, marking tools, and/or ordinary #2 pencils, Hair dryer for drying papers (optional)
Flat paint brushes, 1”-1.5” Paper towels
Tsukineko Walnut ink, Java, Eucalyptus and Terra Cotta Painters’ tape
