HOW THIS TALISMAN
WORKSHOP CAME
ABOUT
I designed my first mixed-media
Talisman Workshop at my old
studio in 2015 for a group of fiber
artists. We talked mostly about
fiber and yarn and texture.
The next year, when I was invited
to teach a talisman workshop at
Vivi Magoo Art Retreat in Round
Top, Texas in 2016, clay faces were
the focus in that class.
The whole talisman concept
finally came together in March of
2017 at Joanna Powell Colbert’s
Gaian Soul Retreat near La
Conner, Washington. I added
paper “blessing beads” to the mix.
These simple paper beads with
messages hidden inside - wrapped,
waxed and enhanced - were a
huge success, and gave our work a
magic synthesis.
Here’s the workshop for you in its
current form - a bit of the sacred,
a bit of clever technique, a lot of
personal creativity.
