Heather’s Goals:
In the first residency, my goal was to integrate things I had been studying, both for
creative work and for physical and mental health, into a cohesive practice that bet-
ter expressed my voice. While I succeeded at what I had figured out, I have realized
that I was missing a piece to fully complete my own circle.
I had been thinking my goals would be around creating work specific to exhibitions,

although I knew I had deferred some gallery related projects this spring that needed
to be worked on. As I looked at possible goals, I realized that as long as I had those
projects and a number of partially finished pieces filling my mental and physical
workspace, I would be working in a smaller and smaller space creatively. About the
same time, a reading from Mark Nepo talked about the need to clear space in our
hearts to be able to feel fully going forward in our lives, and I saw the correlation
with needing to clear away space for new work to have room to grow in. With that,
the exhibition work got moved to my “parking lot”, and clearing roadblocks that
were left over from the last round emerged as a wrap-up phase that needs to go with
my process from last time.

Missing solutions needed to finish projects: Experiments with Sculpture bases (Ga-
bion style, , Flat base, or Free standing balance)
Inventory management (Photographing work, Recording Listings & COGS, Online
vs gallery vs exhibition tracking & sales)

Inventory replenishment in the gallery (Jewelry, Figures, Wall pieces, Cranes)
Studio accounting re-org
Studio cleanup & re-org
