Goal second semester Enso Circle

1.) My first goal for this term is to create three dimensional art forms to represent the

impact that the fashion industry and societal expections have had on women’s bodies.

Corsets - from the 1860’s until the 1920’s, women were stuffed into corsets with metal

stays. These imprisoned women’s bodies and forced them, sometimes fatally, into unnat-

ural shapes.

Bras and girdles - more instruments of torture for the female body

Shoes - Spike heels, and narrow toed shoes caused pain and suffering to many women.

Implications were not only foot deformities but also problems with knees, hips and lower

back. (Also think Barbie and the effects that she has had on young girls who don’t look

like Barbie. Maybe a Barbie do-over)

I would like to make some sculptures of corsets and possibly shoes, emphasizing their

impact on the female body. I may also make some two dimensional representations.

I will use mesh wire, paper mache, wax, and collage techniques.

2.) My second goal for this term is to update my website with my art.

3.) My third goal is to explore getting my work out into the world. I have purchased Aus-

tin Kleon’s book Show Your Work and I will read that.
