Having allowed no goals from the field in eight league games, the 1985 Varsity Soccer team rolled into the Class B sec tional playoffs as League Champions. Going 14-2 overall, the Brothers offense was powered by striker Dino Tognoni, Co-Captain and center midfielder Doug Taylor, and right midfielder Jason Gor don, Additional firepower up front came from Marty Cooke, Peter Maglione and freshman Rob Brophy.
Veterans Rich Yockell and Eric Huner provided skill and support wher ever needed. Defensively, the Brothers looked to key players Sean Murphy, Travis Heiser, Jay Bradshaw, and goalie Greg Aumiiier. They effectively neutralized opposing players by allow ing only eight goals to be scored.
In sectional play the Brothers re ceived the number one bid and a first round bye, but then lost 1-0 to Westhill in the quarterfinals, destroying their chances for a shot at the Section III Class B championship.
All-league First Team honors were earned by senior Doug Taylor and Ju nior Dino Tognoni. Chosen for the Sec ond Team were sophomore Jason Gor don and Senior Marty Cooke. Tognoni, who scored 22 goals led the league in scoring, and was assisted by midfielder Gordon, who had 16 assists. Co-cap tain Sean Murphy was voted to an all league Honorable Mention.
New coach Jim Wemesfelder did an outstanding job with the team. Having nearly all the starters from the 1984 team returning, was a definite factor, plus the help of new members Aumiiier, Bradshaw, Jones, Brophy and Sweet.
