This year’s wrestling squad faced challenges through their entire sea son. The loss of a few members left open positions for the younger wrestlers. One such competitor was rookie freshman John Castro. Under Coach Leo Cosgrove, the team struggled to endure their schedule which included Central Square and Fulton who held the honor of being ranked first in the state. Close matches, such as a
loss to Carthage 32-34, and the experience of opponents caused some disappointment. Victories over Port Byron and Cazenovia gave a brighter outlook. Outstand ing performances came from soph omore Eric Baca, who placed 2nd in the league tournament, junior captain Tom Anderson, who se cured 2nd place as a heavy weight in the Skaneateles tournament, and senior captain Randy DeYulio,
who took 2nd place in the Cazeno via tourney and 4th place in the Class B Tournament in the 112 lb. weight class. Assistant Coach Wil lis Newman said, “ This year’s wrestlers showed lots of individual improvement.’’ A continuation of such improvement could only mean better performances from next year’s squad.
